Who
we are
Minnesota’s Bookstore operates as a centralized publishing
house for state agency products sold to the public. Located
in St. Paul’s new Williams Hill Business Center near
Lafayette Park, Minnesota’s Bookstore sells a wide
variety of products including Revisor of Statute books (statutes,
rules, and session laws), law and rule extracts for selected
professions, state and international building codes, maps
(highway, lake depth, bikeway, county, public recreation),
reports, forms, guides, directories, state flags and decals,
posters, nature & wildlife books, and selected gift
items with a Minnesota theme.
Minnesota’s
Bookstore offers several convenient purchasing options for
customers – the retail store is open from 8 am –
5 pm Monday – Friday. Customers can also purchase
by mail, phone, FAX, and through this web site.

Minnesota’s
Bookstore receives no legislative appropriation and operates
as a business in a government setting, generating income
through the sale of its products to customers from all over
the world. The bookstore has a long track record of successful
publishing partnerships with nearly all State of Minnesota
agencies (one of its products was a Minnesota Book Award
winner in 2000) and is also known for its long-term financial
and customer service success.
With sales, marketing,
retailing, distribution and warehousing systems already
in place, Minnesota’s Bookstore is an excellent resource
for selling and distributing publications and other materials
produced by state, local, and federal government agencies.
Forming a distribution partnership with Minnesota’s
Bookstore allows agencies to refer requests to the bookstore
rather than using their own resources to store, handle,
display, and distribute products.
Minnesota’s
Bookstore is also responsible for two other products lines
– publishing the State Register, the official State
of Minnesota publication, and making public licensing data
available to the public.
Minnesota law
requires that names and addresses of individuals or organizations
licensed by the State of Minnesota be made available to
the public. Since 1982, select mailing lists have been sold
by the bookstore’s Mailing List Service. Lists are
typically used to promote educational opportunities for
license holders who must complete continuing education,
verify licensure, recruit employees, promote products and
services, conduct research, and reach selected license holders
for the purpose of promoting political campaigns, absentee
voting, or for issue-oriented mailings. Because most purchasers
of these mailing lists use the information to generate income
for themselves or their businesses, the Department of Administration
has supported the concept of these lists being sold at market
value. In this way, the cost of providing the information
is paid for by users, not State of Minnesota taxpayers,
representing wise public policy.
